Beeswax, damar resin, pigments and shellac on cradled wood panel
2021
Named after a piece of music by Duke Ellington & John Coltrane. This painting is playful, but delicate with a gentle energy that, with each layer of translucent wax creates a sort of breathability that makes it look magical. The music played a big role in choice of colours in this beauty. I was drawn to the delicate pinks, periwinkle blues, majestic purples and moody greens. The delicate lace-like texture draping over the painting has this protective and enveloping effect as if the colours underneath it, while blending with each other, are shy and private. I feel this sense of serenity every time I hear this piece of music and I wanted to achieve a similar feeling on this panel.
