This etherial painting was inspired by the Joni Mitchell song "Both Sides Now". She wrote this song when she was on a plane and her inspiration came from watching the clouds take on shapes out of her window. The first few lines of this song "Rows and flows of angel hair, and ice-cream castles in the air, and feathered canyons everywhere, I've looked at clouds that way". This song to me is about importance of accepting and even embracing the paradoxes of life's moments and experiences; the ups and downs, the give and take, the wins and losses. All polarities of life itself contribute to that full human experience. In this painting I wanted to capture the essence of those first few lines; the flow, movement, shapes of those clouds and that innocence and child-like wonder that we all experience when we cloud gaze, even in adulthood.
