This painting is #2 of the pair and it was inspired by the song written by Otis Redding. This piece was born from the feeling of longing-a longing echoed in the song.It speaks to the ache for something lost, and the quiet knowing that even these heavy feelings will pass. They always do.
I imagined myself sitting on the dock, feet dangling in the water, watching the tide move in and out. The water never clings-it glimmers, flows, and brushes up against what it meets, but never holds too tightly. There's a softness in that surrender. Like the proverbial waters of the mind, our thoughts are always moving. But it's only when we grasp onto them-clutching a belief, replaying a memory, resisting what is-that the struggle begins.
In this painting, I wanted to capture that stillness within motion. That quiet awareness that comes when we stop resisting and simply observe. Just me on the dock, watching the ripples drift in and out, letting them carry my thought away.
