Spring was inspired by a composition by Andrea Vanzo - a piece that carries the joy and quiet power of nature awakening.
I wanted this painting to capture that moment when the earth stirs from its winter sleep. The deep vibrant greens I chose speak to that surge of life - fresh, vibrant, and full of quiet strength. There's something so pure in the way spring greens burst through the soil, and yet, there's effort there too, like it takes a certain kind of resilience for buds to push through bark, for shoots to rise through the dirt. It's transformation that seems like it would almost hurt, but nature does it, again and again and again.
The white shellac in the piece was meant to echo melting snow, those last remnants of winter dissolving into the soil, clearing the way for life to return. I'm fascinated by how that change feels so gentle, and yet it requires so much.
Spring always brings a shift. After months of stillness, we welcome the warmth, the light, the invitation to begin again.
Beeswax, damar resin, dry pigments and shellac on cradled wood panel.
Hanging hardware is included.
